Chloe, a scarred bait dog survivor, waited longer than any dog at her shelter without an application. Adopted by Morgan, she overcame deep fears, including a terror of still ceiling fans, to become a joyful, loving companion with a passion for Chinese food.

Getting A Dog: Chloe, a scarred bait dog survivor, waited longer than any dog at her shelter without an application

Chloe, a rescue dog with a traumatic past, waited longer than any other dog at the Humane Society without receiving a single adoption application. She arrived at the shelter with scars across her cheeks, reportedly after being used as a bait dog in a pit bull fighting ring.

Deep fears lingered from her past. Chloe spent a long time waiting for someone to choose her. Her difficult shelter stay was brightened by one dedicated staff member who spent as much time as possible with her. This person worked to help Chloe heal and build her confidence during those uncertain months.

Adoption and the challenges of bringing Chloe home

Chloe was eventually adopted by Morgan. The transition to a home came with its own hurdles. Chloe carried unusual fears into her new environment. Ceiling fans terrified her, but only when they were switched off. She would refuse to enter a room unless the ceiling fan was spinning.

How love and routine helped Chloe overcome her fears

Morgan used love, routine, and patience to reassure the nervous dog. Over time, Chloe grew more confident and could move through the house without fear. Morgan described Chloe as both 'goofy' and 'needy.' The dog shows her gentle, affectionate side constantly. When Morgan was recently sick and slept separately, Chloe stayed with her, curling up on Morgan's chest to keep her company. Morgan said: "Chloe looks at her as though she is her entire world."

Chloe's joyful life today: zoomies, toys, and her love for Chinese food

Now thriving, Chloe's personality shines. She loves racing through the house with the zoomies, sometimes launching herself onto the couch before turning around and repeating the behavior. She shows off her toys and brings them to her person. Yet, her most persistent campaign is for food. Chloe has a serious hankering for Chinese food. She bounces around excitedly whenever she smells Chinese takeout nearby. Her mom says no, but Chloe remains firmly convinced it should be on the menu as often as possible.

Chloe's days are now filled with toys, zoomies, affection, and the security of knowing where she belongs.
