Malamute Duke Adjusts to Samoyed Puppy Sister Odesa

An older Malamute dog named Duke had a polite first meeting with a tiny Samoyed puppy named Odesa, giving her gentle kisses. The video series from the Instagram account @duke.the.malamute shows their relationship evolving from rocky beginnings to a close bond.

Duke's initial retreat to the living-room carpet was a sign of things to come. The puppy, Odesa, was relentless in her pursuit of play, involving the older dog in all her energetic antics.

A Rocky Start to Friendship

Outside, Duke showed early signs of engagement, dropping into a play bow and getting the zoomies around Odesa. The video's text joked he must have thought, "Finally, a friend." That excitement was short-lived. Odesa soon discovered Duke's face, ears, and tail were available for chewing. She nibbled his cheek while he lay on his bed and pulled at his fur. Duke mostly sat there with a long-suffering expression, never biting back, which led one clip to call him "a golden angel."

At one point, Odesa grabbed his tail while he was lying in the grass, prompting their mom to step in. Duke gave her a look that seemed very appreciative. The puppy kept going indoors, too, refusing to let him enjoy much quiet time on the rug.

The Gradual Adjustment

Things began to change as Odesa grew older. The two dogs started playing tug together. They began chasing each other through the yard and running around the patio. That was when the older dog adjusted to the new puppy. Duke seemed to decide that having Odesa around wasn't so bad after all.

Soon enough, Duke and Odesa were spending most of their time together. They would lie with their backs touching. They slept beside each other on a pouf. They even followed each other from room to room.

Becoming Inseparable Companions

If Duke got up, Odesa was right behind him. If he did something, she apparently needed to try it too. By the end of the video series, the big Malamute had become friends with the Samoyed puppy who once refused to leave him alone.
